Design and Construction
The Key Sweater is worked from the top down, featuring raglan increases on the yoke for a seamless finish. Short rows are incorporated after the neck ribbing to shape the neckline, ensuring a comfortable fit. The body and sleeves are knitted in the round, adorned with a two-color stripe pattern that adds visual interest. The sweater is finished with ribbed edges, providing a polished look.
Sizing
This pattern offers a comprehensive size range: XXS (XS) S (M) L (XL) 2XL (3XL) 4XL (5XL), designed to fit bust circumferences from 75 cm (29½ inches) to 150 cm (59 inches). The intended positive ease of approximately 25 cm (9¾ inches) ensures a relaxed and comfortable fit. Detailed measurements for each size are provided to assist in selecting the appropriate size.
I love knitting patterns that are size inclusive – so kudos to the designer, PetiteKnit, for offering such a large range of sizes.
Materials and Yarn
The recommended yarns include Sandnes Garn Peer Gynt or Filcolana Peruvian, held together with Filcolana Alva or Sandnes Garn Alpakka Følgetråd. This combination achieves an aran weight, resulting in a warm and cozy fabric. Yardage varies by size, ranging from 1,095 yards (1,001 meters) to 1,692 yards (1,547 meters).
Circular needles in sizes 4.0 mm (US 6) and 4.5 mm (US 7) are recommended, along with double-pointed needles in the same sizes for the sleeves, unless the Magic Loop technique is used.
My favourite circular needles are by ChiaoGoo. The needle tips are great and the cord is so flexible – I hate when you get slowed down by a stiff circular needle cord.
Skill Level and Techniques
This pattern is suitable for intermediate knitters. Techniques involved include top-down construction, raglan increases, short rows for neckline shaping, knitting in the round, and stranded colorwork for the stripe pattern. Familiarity with these techniques will aid in the successful completion of the project.
