The Crafter Behind Hedgerow Yarncraft

Hello! I’m Amy. Fiber artist and yarn addict.

I have always been a creative person – I collect artistic and creative hobbies as much as I collect yarn. Knitting and crochet are just some of my many hobbies.

I grew up exposed to crafty women. My aunt used to knit and crochet for a local yarn shop. She would babysit me and would always have a project in her basket beside her chair. As a child, I was never really interested in the process of knitting or crocheting but it was not an unfamiliar aspect of life.

I loved my handmake blankets and seeing what my aunt made. But never thought I could do it.

How I Learned To Knit and Crochet

I learned to knit when I was 16. I was on vacation visiting my aunt (a different one than the story above) who lived in the Caribbean. We spent most of our visit at the ocean – I had never been to the ocean before. But one day, we had to stay inside. It was a rainy day and everyone was cooped up in their small townhome. We were all sitting around watching golf with my uncle when my aunt pulled out her knitting project.

I had no desire to watch golf, so instead I asked my aunt to teach me to knit.

My aunt taught me a very simple one row dish cloth pattern and I was obsessed. Later that week, I got on an airplane to head home with my new knitting needles and a skein of yarn.

From there, I continued to build my knitting skills and eventually I wanted to learn how to crochet.

Funny story about crocheting – I tried and tried so hard to teach myself to crochet. I had almost given up. One more video – that is what I had told myself. I clicked on a how to crochet video and suddenly it clicked – I figured it out! Later in the video, the instructor mentions being left handed and I looked down, not realizing it prior but apparently I crochet left handed! No wonder it wasn’t clicking. Despite writing with my right hand, I still – to this day – cannot crochet right handed. It just doesn’t work!

It has now been many moons since that initial introduction to yarncrafting but I am still completely hooked. Knitting and crochet are some of my favourite past times. I always have some kind of project on the go and a stash of yarn to last me decades.

Hedgerow Yarncraft

My mission here are Hedgerow Yarncraft is to share the best knitting and crochet patterns for you, your family and your home. I know that I will not live for thousands of years and therefore cannot knit and crochet every pattern that I would like to – so instead I share them with you.

I am constantly discovering new patterns and new designers. I know I will never be able to make every project I save so I decided I wanted to share my love of looking for new patterns with someone. You never know who you will inspired. If I can get someone to cast on a new pattern that they never would have found otherwise, I will consider this blog successful.

This site was created to promote outstanding designers and their work. We do not collect photographs but use them as examples of inspiring work in our articles. I always give copyright credit to every photo and do not mean to violate the designers’ rights. I reach out to designers letting them know they are being featured and requesting permission to use their promotional photographs of their designs.
